Reluctant sale of “That White Thing”, I’ve owned this crewie since 06/10/2005 and was my daily driver for about 4 years, as I had several aircooled VW’s I decided to take it off the road and start restoring it, since then I’ve done pretty much bugger all to it and finally realised that all its going to do is sit there so someone else might as well enjoy it. Vehicle is currently sorn, but is free historic tax.
Since purchasing the vehicle I’ve done some welding on some top hat sections and replaced a few outriggers, made up some patches for MOT repairs, sorted out the stock heating system so you get a good amount of heat all the way to the front, new cables throughout. New aerial. Front beam has been replaced with a ‘Weedeater’ beam, 84mm narrowed and lowered about 3” to level the vehicle out, plenty more adjustment to go lower, at the same time I replaced the shocks, all the torsion arm ball joints, fitted new track rod arms (complete) and steering damper. 1600 engine was serviced regularly but has the obligatory oil leaks, from memory a couple of the exhaust studs are rotted but ran fine, fitted with a kadron k300. The carb and dizzy aren’t fitted at the moment but I’ll refit them prior to collection and try to get it running to make it easier to get on a trailer/low loader. The vehicle currently has no brakes, the front callipers have been split and pistons removed prior to me rebuilding them which never happened, all calliper parts are present including the anti-squeal shims. I’ve replaced both front hard lines from the t-piece to the chassis and fitted the grommets, o/s/r has been stripped prior to me welding the replacement panel (cut from a breaker) and handbrake cables have been cut at the front.
Interior is complete and despite being dirty is in relatively good nick. All parts removed during ownership will come with the vehicle.
Currently sitting on 17” merc alloys with 4 very good tyres, o/s/r however has a nail in it causing a slow puncture but it should be fixable with a mushroom, original wheels included but tyres are shot.
Load bed is solid, dropsides and rear gate in poor but useable condition, sills replaced by previous owner, welds could do with tidying though.
Bad bits, roof has a few dents and there is a small gap between the roof and the crossbar due to a slight bend in the bar, I have a replacement bar cut from a breaker which will come with the vehicle, looks worse than it is, n/s/f lower windscreen frame has rotted through and the seal is brittle, this area has had gaffa tape put on to reduce the leak but would need fixing properly, both front arches need replacing, 1 replacement will be included, rear lower corners have been repaired with camper repair panels as opposed to the correct panel, I have an o/s/r NOS complete panel to replace one side, photo of the o/s/r area which is holed, replacement panel cut from breaker included. Vehicle has scratches, dents etc but is in very good condition for year.
Included in the sale but not fitted is a draglink arm, 2xhandbrake cables, 2xcaliper rebuild kits, 4xcaliper bleed nipples, set of brake pads and fitting kit, 2xrear drum backplates, 2xrear cylinders, fitting kit, dust caps and all grommets for brake lines, all flexible hoses for braking system.

I shall dig out the previous MOT’s and try to update with rough dates as to when certain works were carried out and which other bits I've replaced. I’ll have a tidy up so if you wish to view the vehicle out of the garage that should be possible. Mileage 106355 genuine, previous mot's to prove. replacement front arch supplied with vehicle from schofields, also cargo floor repair panel will be included.
I've found the last MOT failure sheet, tested on 26/02/2007.
nsf & osf worn uneven tyres, tread below legal minimum, tyres replaced (reason for wear was tracking out due to track rods having bends in them)
nsf & osf (axle) suspension component excessively corroded, osf track rod arm bent, entire beam replaced with a weedeater adjustable 84mm narrowed beam, new torsion arm bj's, both track rod arms replaced with new steering damper and new shocks.
nsf & nsr outriggers excessive corrosion, outriggers removed and replaced with new outriggers.
osr suspension component mounting prescribed area is excessively corroded, replacement panel cut from breaker, rotten area cut out and panel replaced.
nsr & osr subframe mounting prescribed area exessively corroded, these were the closing panels in front of the rear wheels, rot cut out and replaced with new panel.
Advisories.
nsr taillamp not in good working order but light output not severely reduced. I have a replacement lense this will be included.
rear (all) metal brake pipes slightly corroded (this is why I decided to completely overhaul the braking system) parts for this included as above.
oil leak (this is the obligitory aircooled vw engine oil leak)
I carried out the above work between 26/02/2007 and 17/07/2007 when she passed.
