They don`t come much better. It comes in Silver Metallic Paintwork that was the original launch colour when new and is still in Excellent condition, when cleaned this Golf Turbo comes up a treat, it has lost non of its shine and it gleams as it should, again the difference with a Volkswagon, most 1999 plate vehicles have oxidised by now or have major rust. The exterior in my opinion is very very good, taking age and mileage into account, this vehicle body-wise could be passed off as 3/4 years old no doubt, there is no damage around the bodywork and all panels are totally straight with matching gaps all-round. From 5 paces away this Golf is very straight, it sits as it should and all panels are to fit, there are no major scratches, scuffs or dents to be seen and not a single spec of rust or paint bubbling. This really is a clean and tidy Golf and it is hard to pull it up on anything, but being 13 years old now as expected there are some very minor ailments. There is a few bumper marks showing that are very very light airline marks, there is some stone chips to the front end and the odd trolly ding, that is it really, no money needs spending on this car, there are no marks that need immediate attention and to be honest 90% wouldn`t even notice anyway! All mentioned is cosmetics, there is nothing substantial that needs pointing out. I am being hard on the Golf really, in my eyes the car is Extremely clean! Obviously the car is now 13 years old so you may find the odd age related blemish here and there and a pin dint from Tescos carpark but that is it, there are no eye-sores or anything that jumps out at you. I am very critical on all my cars as I like to be as honest as possible before viewings. Remember this Golf Turbo isn`t new but with a regular polish it will look Stunning for a very long time. All 4 Alloy wheels are original Golf Turbo parts with VW Centres, the wheels are in ok condition with some curb marks etc and the centres have worn, these can be repaced for £25 approx to make the wheels look almost new, all tyres have ample tread on them, possibly 1 needs replacing which will be done by me if a price can be agreed. Inside the interior is holding up well and showing no harsh signs of wear and tear, these VW Trims were made with quality materials that were made to last, the Red and Black Recaro Interior with Recaro embroidered into the backrests are in good condition, there are no burns or rips showing and no frayed material coming from the bolsters, there is some wear mainly to the drivers seat but nothing major, remember this car is now 13 years old! The back seats look as though they have only been sat in a handful of times. The floorcarpet is very clean and tidy throughout with no nasty stains, toffee marks or holes in the footwells and have been protected by overmats and the headlining, doorcards and dash area are all in tact and pretty much spotless.The car starts 1st time and it drives A1, there are no knocks or bangs or any rattles from under the bonnet, the engine ticks over as it should on idle giving a mouth watering roar with no smoke coming from the exhaust, the gearbox is nice and tight and selects all gears with ease and the clutch is just halfway biting in the right spot. The handbrake and brakes operate perfectly. It returns 27 MPG around the town and upto 39 MPG on a motorway journey (approx) this VW Golf Turbo is surprisingly not bad on fuel considering the power it produces, if you drive this car subtle without thrashing it every time you get in then it will return good figures just like an everyday runner. The Turbo kicks in at around 2500 rpm. The drive performance and build quality is up there with the best I have owned and driven and exactly what you would expect from the Germans, there is nothing to fault here, this car is Sleak, Sporty, Fast, Reliable and Safe you really cannot go wrong with the MK4 Golf. These Turbo versions are becoming very rare in this condition and in a few years if the new owner can keep it to a high standard it should prove to be a bargain and be worth much more than it is now. In this condition on a 1999 T plate there is hardly any on the road most are now spares and repair so it won`t be often you pull up at the lights next to the same car. Also with a Private reg it could be passed as much newer remember these MK4 Golfs were built up to 2004. This model is a joy to drive and will bring a smile to anyone`s face, it is lightning quick when you put your foot down and is not for the faint hearted, it produces a whopping 150 BHP as standard and will keep up with most on the road. The suspension is firm and the handling is crisp this 1.8 Turbo sticks to the road like glue. If its a cheap sports hatch you want then this is the 1 to have. Around the town it is very versatile and will get you into tight spaces no problem, you can spin this car around in a small carpark without much fuss and it will weave in and out of traffic like a city-car, even the not so confident road user would not struggle to drive or park this car, everything is set up just right. This Turbo Golf maybe a performance vehicle but it is an all-round performer too and really comes into its own on country lanes and motorways where you can put your foot down, it performs effortlessly and there is plenty of fun to have in this super fast German Hatch. The sporty suspension will ride potholes like they are not even there and the cabin effectively shuts all external noise out. Fuel consumption isn`t bad at all either, you can be cruising in the overtaking lane in excess of 70 MPH if you wish and you will get upto 40 MPG which is a huge bonus considering this being a performance car, also at these speeds the rev counter will sit in between 2600 RPM and 3000 RPM with no strain on this bomb-proof engine. These cars are made to last and will go to the moon and back if maintained correctly. As for Reliability Dub engines and mechanicals are well constructed and they don`t come much better, very little often goes wrong with these models if serviced regularly and they have been renowned over the years for doing mega miles, you still see these cars now with 250,000 miles on the clock on the original gearbox and clutch selling anywhere from £1000 upwards, quality in abundance! Even when a repair is needed labour rates are not extautionate and parts are easily accessible through ebay or scrapyards. Inside the cabin you get a very comfortable seating position that goes hand in hand with good visability, all controls have been set up in the right places making selection easy whilst driving and the equipment levels are more than enough and will keep you occupied. Space isn`t bad either 5 adults can be seated with ample head and legroom and you could fit 2 large suitcases in the boot with room either side. A comfortable environment with lots of equipment, built to a high standard. It’s a nice place to be. This car new cost in the region of £20,000 in 1999 and was the type of vehicle to attract footballers, you can now own this fine example for a fraction of that and it still looks drives spot on. This 1.8 Turbo Powered Golf has only covered 134,000 miles in 13 years, thats approximately 7,800 per year or 155 mile per week, hardly got warm really and is only just runin! A 1999 plate in this condition is becoming a rare find and not to be missed, this is only one of very few that drives and looks this good and priced at trade money. Remember SERVICE HIS. Whoever does decide to purchase this genuine unabused example will not be disappointed, I would gladly sell it to a close relative or friend. I have seen, she is a 2l Mk 3 GTi bottom end conversionI am selling my pride and joy as I am now working over 100 miles away from home and have bought a Diesel as she is costing me too much to run and in these difficult times an extra £150 per month to run her is not possible. Plus it would be a shame to be putting that sort of mileage on a classic like this. Now lets get down to it, I have owned the car for over 2 years and have restored her to her current glory I have taken her to Scotland and back many a time and she has never missed a beat or let me down. I have done loads of things to her to bring her up to the standard that you see here but she really was a gem of a find in the first place. She is original Tornado Red paintwork and has never been resprayed but has been looked after her whole life as there isn`t a spot of rust on her which goes to show that she has been washed and waxed her whole life. She comes up beautifully after a t cut which I generally did twice a year. Now she is 23 years old this year and she has a few age related chips and scratches but as you can see from the photos that there is nothing to take away from how great she looks. She is a crowd puller and never fails to get people going. Funny really as when I was telling people I was selling her they all thought I was crazy even the dealers when I was looking for my new car, but its time for someone else to love her as I have. Now the guy I bought her off was young and had her lowered and other mods that people do like single headlights and smoked lights. Here is a list of the things I have done and are as follows:COSMETICS Replaced the single headlight grill for an original,Replaced all smoked lights for originals,The gear gaiter was replaced for genuine leather,leather custom made searing wheel cover,custom Mk 2 car mats throughout,Rear parcel shelve mounts replaced,Black alloys were replaced for BBS Replica and has a good set of Falcon sports tyres.Sunroof seal replaced with Genuine VW part,Warn drivers seat foam and fabric replaced and looks brand new,Custom made slip mats in all cubby holes and door pockets,Tornado red interior trim stripes,Interior is in show condition!!MECHANICAL2l bottom end conversion the donor engine was on 83kat the same time a new clutch was installed,new head kit including gasket, valve seals and associated ancillaries,New belt set including alternator and timing,new front shock absorber,not at the same time but since I have had her she has also had:K&N intake was replace with an original Mk 2 Air box,Thermostat,temperature thermo sensorrear wheel bearing I have just put in a gear linkage kit to stop free play and she feels great. the rear brakes were striped down and repaired for last years MOT this MOT had the other rear wheel bearing donethe registration plate lamp repaired.A full service was carried out less than 500 miles ago including Air & oil filter changes, oil andspecial friction reducing additive to reduce wear and improve economy and performance (expensive stuff)And probably some other stuff that I have forgotten to mention, she still has a scorpion exhaust system on which I haven`t replaced as it actually sound really good, she has a single wiper conversion which still works perfectly unlike most which is why I haven`t changed it, the parcel shelf has got 4 speaker holes in it which the guy before me did but you can get one on ebay or a scrappy for £20 or like I did just put some speakers in it?Now the bad points: Apart from the age related chips and few scratches she has a small power searing fluid leak which started when the engine was changed and is just from the feed pipe not the pump and is not under pressure, This just needs taking off and putting back on again with a little loctite. and the last thing is that the odometer has stopped registering miles I have a spare but I haven`t got round to changing them. So as you can see these aren`t even bad points really. Both can be fixed for nothing or at a garage it would cost about £50 plus vat. So here is one of the best examples around and wouldn`t take much to bring her into show winning standard she drives great with Zero noises or rattles and no second gear crunch or any of the other Mk 2 trades that show its age. door, a rust blister behind petrol flap and under rear drivers side light, look at photo number nine, also two small dents on passenger wing plus some micro blisters on passenger wing, hard to see when you are two meters away. Parcel shelf missing its rubber straps plus speaker holes cut into it. Petrol cap missing so temporary one in its place. Drivers seat has the usall wear and tear, all of these items are easy to sort out if you have the time, if i think of anything more items to add i will. Things i have sorted out on this car since owning it; blower motor not working so replaced and now working on all speeds plus heater does work in cabin. Washer jets not working, so replaced water bottle and pump, now working fine. Central locking was not working, (pump missing) so added pump now all four doors plus petrol flap lock and unlock,(tailgate will only lock and unlock manually) also added bonus with the Hornet thatcham approved alarm that has been added, the car will lock and unlock remotely using the key fob, which there are two off, plus two keys. Added a radio cd player, speakers in front doors work fine, speakers in rear parcel shelf supports are not wired up, will try and sort this before action ends. I have a spare passenger seat plus a drivers base to replace the worn drivers seat if the new owner would like it. As i have never insured this car it has not been used, but it starts first time everytime on turn of key, the engine purrs plus its not loud with the aftermarket exhurst system that has been added, just driving car around the block the gear change is nice and tight, no going into reverse etc when you want first, plus brakes are fine with what looks like recent front discs plus pads. The cambelt plus water pump were changed last august, plus the rad looks quite new, i have some sevice history which goes with the car, showing in the last couple of years front windscreen replaced wheel bearing replaced rear shocks replaced etc. To sum up a good solid car with a little work would make a great car, its mot runs until september and is taxed until the end of march, its the rare 16v small bumper model with no sunroof so no problems there plus no power steering so no problems there, plus has armured plates around door handles for added protection,the cloth seats that were added are the red strip which are correct for the age of car. The tyres are all good as are the brakes that have had a recent disc and pad change all round. The car has a couple of chips and scuffs here and there as you would expect for a car of this age. However the only one worth mentioning is a small scuff on the rear drivers side wheel arch. I have included a photo to illustrate this. Overall this is a great example of a well looked after car that combines great fuel economy (50+mpg) with great performance and styling. Any inspection welcome as are any questions.
