a unique vehicle! The van was owned by a company called Figro Vareforsyning T/As Dollar Kaffee in Norway. This was the only registered owner from June 1967 until 1976 when Dollar Coffee ceased trading and the van was sold to a gentleman who took it to his Cabin in the woods to use as a Tool shed. He, in his wisdom, decided to paint the van with green house paint so it would blend into its surroundings better.. It stayed like this until, around 15 years ago, he decided he no longer had a use for it and towed it to the local scrapyard! A few guys in the Local VW community got wind of this and there was a bit of a fight on to see who could be the next owner. The successful candidate stored the bus inside until he ran out of storage and put it outside under a cover. It then changed hands another time or 2 before I decided to buy it and import it from Norway last year. I had big plans to do the work and get it on the road, but my workshop door is not high enough and, at the moment I am paying to store it elsewhere, with no chance of it getting a look in for at least a month or 2. It starts and drives with the original 1500 engine I believe. It has covered 38500km (24000 miles) on the odometer which I was told is the original mileage, but cannot verify this. At the moment it runs with a jerry can someone has rigged up, I guess the fuel tank will need flushing out after years sitting. I have driven it on and off the trailer and around the yard. It drives and stops, but the brakes are weak and will need to be gone through. The van does need a significant amount of rust repair, but, if you have restored buses before it`s not a crazy amount or as much as the average UK split bus. There are very few old repairs, so it`s just rust to chop out, not bodged work. The work needed I would list as follows, but don`t take my word for it - check out the following link to Photobucket for over 150 pics of underneath. Sills inner and outer, jacking points and outriggers, front and rear crossmembers, inner front valance in both corners, lower A pillars, step repairs and front floor outer repairs. It will also need both outer 12" rear floor repairs, some localised outer top hat section repairs and lower bulkhead repairs. There is some localised rusting on the rear engine shelf and the engine lid hinge panel and the rear corner, battery tray and surrounding metal needs a fair bit of work, as there was a piece of galvanised steel riveted on which has accelerated the rusting. There is a small area at the bottom of one of the lower front chassis legs aft of the beam that also needs repairing, the rest of the main frame rails appears very solid. ****** I have a rear body clip which more than covers the repair area and a complete bulkhead which can be used for the lower repairs. The paint has been partially stripped back to reveal the red paint which has the original logos on it. The DOLLAR logos and the `3 Figro` on the doors are painted on, the other logos are large stickers, some in great condition, others not so, but they would be easy to get re-made. The Dollar scheme was on the red paint and the bumpers and wheels were white. The inside cab area is in the factory painted L87 Pearl white and is in very nice condition. The original seats and interior panels including headliner are in nice useable condition and the super rare cab divider are present. When I bought the van I registered the web domain dollarcoffee.co.uk and this will be included to the buyer if required. This would make a great mobile coffee stand business. I have the original Norwegian registration paper to register the van once it has an MOT. Thanks for looking.
