seat is a fully operational Captains swivel seat, quite rare and sought after on these campers. Windows in the rear are all tinted/darkened and side windows are sliding, very nice to have. On the roof is a pop up top to let in ventilation, very usefull.The van has a twin ring hob, sink, fridge, and gas and water tank.Gas heater (must be checked before use) It also has storage cupboards.The front cab interior is very clean and seats are in very good condition.Outside the van is in good condition but is not perfect, this is a 17 year old van. On the rear left hand corner there is a dent of a couple of inches, around wheel arches and petrol cap she needs some tidying, this could easily be repaired by a bodyshop or a "friend in the know." The van is petrol and pulls and drives like any modern day van, it is quite nippy and handles well, it returns between 20/25 to the gallon. I have owned the van for 5 years and have had some great times but it is now time to move on. Volkswagen T4 Transporter. It has literally brought tears to my whole families eyes having to sell her but due to crime paying these days and her being stolen from us before Christmas has left us in a situation whereas although we got her back, we cannot afford to keep her anymore. I will tell the story further down to save boring you, but its all there if you want to read it. Ok, She is a 1991 Volkswagen T4 Transporter that has been fitted with seats. As you can see she has tinted side windows fitted as well. Before she was stolen we had the engine completely rebuilt at the cost of £3,500 and she drives beautifully but we now have no paperwork to show the work done as this was all sent off to the Insurance company. I can however supply the name and phone number of the VW specialist garage that did all the work on Bertha and they can verify everything I write here. Her bodywork is immaculate and she is a real head turner, getting flashes and waves from other drivers everywhere we go. As you can see she has a mural on her bonnet and its a famous Native Indian scene called " The end of the Trail" this was painted by myself. She has chrome roof bars, chrome side bars and the front bull bar. Chrome wing mirrors, Alloy wheels and all the tyres are like new. Her paintwork is in fantastic condition and she shines like a brand new car straight off the forecourt, she is beautiful !!. Inside she is admittedly dated, we never got around to doing that up as as soon as our four kids get inside we know theres no point yet !! But we had plans and now at least you can do the insides to your own tastes or take the seats out and make her a camper ( that was our intention for the future ). She has had new dashboard speakers fitted but the thiefs have stolen the c.d player. The steering wheel is a Momo hardwood wheel. She does have the old Diesel sounding engine, a bit clackety clack, but that to me is part of her charm and personality. She blows a little bit of white smoke on hill climbs and as with all old vehicles we have to keep an eye on her oil levels, but shes our baby and were happy to feed her now and then. She doesnt lose any water at all. As you can probably tell im writing this from a completely `in love with her and dont want to sell her` point of view so if i`m missing out important things then please feel free to ask. And now the story... When we first saw Bertha it was like the scene out of "Christine " the Stephen King film, when the boy sees the Plymouth Fury and just has to have her. My wife and I fell in love at first sight with her and just had to buy her, we bought her without asking the proper questions, just with stupid grins on our faces !!. Bertha had a problem, one of her cylinders was siezed up and she was only running on three. We knew it was going to cost us but we made the decision to get her in a garage and for them to completely rebuild the engine, this was done around July 2011 at a cost of £3,500. But when we got her back she was glorious. Then just before Christmas 2012 we woke up, went outside and realised she was gone, she had been stolen. To cut a long story short we was stuck, I had to drive to work, we have four children and we needed to get a vehicle fast so we brought a newer Caravelle. Then on Christmas eve we got the call from the Police to say she had been found and was in a compound in North London. Because of the time of year we couldnt get in touch with the insurance company and we couldnt pick Bertha up without the V5 document that the insurance company had, the charges built up and we couldnt afford to get her back from the compound. The Insurance company meanwhile paid us out ( a pitiful sum as im sure you can imagine ) but we had to use that money to pay the loan for the new van. So Bertha was stranded and was eventually sent to auction by the Insurance company ... and I won her back !!!. There is absolutely no damage that the thiefs have done, I think they just run her out of Diesel and decided to nick the c.d player, however the barrel in the drivers door doesnt want to open although theres no sign of any damage, so its passenger door only at the moment ( but I kinda like it for some stupid reason, its a bit Dukes of Hazard !! ) So now we have two vans and no money and they both have to go. The whole ordeal with the insurance company, the Police compound fees, the auction and having to buy another vehicle on the quick has left us skint and with no choice but to sell. I have had her MOT`d and she sailed through with no problems, there`s no tax as she`s been garaged since we got her back but I have the V5 in hand again now and its registered to my wife. Be aware that if you buy her, you may have to drive some of the way home with me clinging onto the tow bar in floods of tears, but im sure you`ll get rid of me eventually!! I have thought long and hard about starting prices, reserve prices, buy it now prices etc and its been hard as we obviously dont really want to sell. But we have decided to put a reserve on her of £4,200 as not only do we feel she is worth loads more than this ( but we are biased of course ) but thats the figure we need to get ourselves out of financial trouble and we wont sell if we cant get ourselves sorted.
